Artlife as Everyday Life
Domestic Poem
By Eileen Moeller nightfall I sink into dishwashing meditation steaming china prayer wheels crystalline bells of the lost horizon crockery mandalas chanting din and lull of running water breathing slows moist heat muscles soften zen poems drip from silverware my air humming out in a cleansing melody washing the frantic stew of a whole day down the drain along with the suds those transient rainbow things. In the Artlife process, we allow the things, objects and processes of our ordinary lives - what we touch and use, activities in which we engage - to become infused with aliveness, a sense of being special, in an almost magical way. Ordinary things then begin to respond to us, allowing us to translate their inner power into new kinds of living, alchemized through the movements of our creating hands and hearts. How can we cultivate an aesthetic quality in our lives, one that is nourishing to, even vital for, some deeper part of ourselves? By bringing care and attention, love, skill and perhaps a sense of play to ordinary everyday actions such as creating a dessert, washing the car, or reading a bedtime story. Then, our very lives start to become an expression of our soul work. |
